TOURNAMENT RULES
The SaskTel Female Hockey Challenge tournament is sanctioned by the Saskatchewan Hockey Association (SHA). The female hockey tournament follows the Canadian Hockey Association (CHA) and SHA rules governing minor hockey.
The tournament committee reserves the right to alter and enforce any rule deemed necessary to operate the tournament in a safe, timely and efficient manner.
Note: All new Hockey Canada rules will apply.
- Home Team will wear white jerseys and visiting team will wear dark unless otherwise agreed to by both teams.
- Each team will be allowed a 5 minute warm up.
- Novice division will play 2 -15 minute and 1 - 20 minute running time period with the last 3 minutes stop time.
- Atom division will play 3 - 20 minute running time periods with the last 3 minutes stop time.
- Pee Wee division will play 2 - 15 minute and 1 - 20 minute periods stop time.
- Bantam will play 1 - 15 and 2 - 20 minute stop time periods.
- Midget division will play 3 - 20 minute stop time periods.
- Referees and time keepers have the right to adjust any time remaining in the third period of the game.
- Ice cleaning (15 minute allocations) will take place between games in Novice, Atom and Pee Wee and every second period in Bantam and Midget.
- All teams are to be prepared to play 15 minutes prior to their scheduled ice time. A team which is late for an opening face-off will be assessed a one goal penalty for every 5 minutes they are late to a maximum of five, at which time the game will be awarded to the other team.
- There will be no time outs, protests, stick or equipment measurements or body checking allowed.
- No red line is in effect in all divisions.
- Mouth guards are not mandatory.
- A game MVP will be selected from each Novice, Atom, Pee Wee, Bantam, Bantam AA and Midget game by their own coaching staff.
- The referee's decisions are final in all matters pertaining to rule interpretations, assessment of penalties, awarding of goals and assists.

Mercy Rule
- If there is a five goal or more spread in the third period, the play clock will run at straight time. If the spread goes back to four goals or less, then the play clock will go back to stop time. If 7 goals or more separate the team, the score will not display the additional goals.

Game Misconducts
- As per SHA rule 3.07.02 (K) any player or team official who is assessed a game misconduct during the last 10 minutes of a game will miss the remainder of the game being played and one additional game.

Game Ejection
- Any player assessed three minor penalties or five penalties in a game shall be required to leave the ice area for the remainder of the game.

Match Penalty
- Any player assessed a match penalty will be suspended as per the SHA Regulation 2.07.02 and will not be able to play in the remainder of the tournament.
- All penalties will be served as straight time during straight time periods and stop time during stop time periods.

Play Format
- All divisions will play a pool format with 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss.
- There will be no overtime during round robin play.
- In the event of a tie after round robin play, the following SHA Tie breaking Procedure will apply (3.09.01):
- Best win record between tied teams.
- Best plus minus based on goals for and goals against (goals for minus goals against).
- Best ratio of goals for divided by goals for plus goals against. ** Note: A maximum of 7 goals difference per game will be used in the calculation. This will be calculated from the actual "goals for" of the losing team in the particular game.
- The team with the least minutes in penalties throughout "all" games, gains the higher position.
- First goal scored between tied teams.
- Coin toss.

Pee Wee Division Wild Card Tie Breaker Rules
- The top team from each pool will be placed in 1A, B and C positions.
- The next top team based on points will be awarded the wild card for the A side championship playoff.
- In the event of a tie, best plus minus based on goals for and goals against (goals for minus goals against).
- Best ratio of goals for divided by goals for plus goals against.
- The team with the least minutes in penalties throughout "all" games, gains the higher position.
- First goal scored between tied teams.
- Coin toss.
- The top teams remaining in each pool will be placed in the 2 A, B and C positions. The Wildcard will use the same format as above.

Overtime
- Semi Final and Final tie break procedures are as follows:
- 5 minute 4 on 4 period.
- If still tied, each team will select 3 players for a shootout.
- If still tied, each team will select 3 players for a shootout.
- If still tied, each team will provide additional players in a sudden death shootout. You may not use a player twice until all your players have shot.
